Mouth, Nose and Cigarette Vase | Ceramics

This sculptural ceramic piece by Meghan Mason was handcrafted using Laguna 55, a smooth mid-range stoneware clay body. After shaping the clay, Maghan applied a colored underglaze to specific parts to add precise painted details, which were later sealed with a glossy, food-safe Kitten's Clear topcoat. The main body of the vessel was coated in a Tiger's Eye glaze to create a rich, variegated amber-brown finish. Finally, the pottery was fired in a kiln to Cone 6 (approximately 2,232°F), a mid-range temperature that permanently matured the clay and melted the glazes into their final glossy state.
